Once in a while you would desire to splurge on things, travel or food. I don't spend that much on things but I prefer to reward myself with travels and adventures and also good food. When I say good food, I usually associate it with gourmet dishes that isn't always prepared in simple households like ours, nor sold in fastfoods and small carenderias(food stalls). I don't know much about gourmet dishes and how they were prepared, nonetheless I "self-proclaim" Vienna Kaffeehaus as a place to indulge one's craving for gourmet food.
This is a very delayed post which happened last year during the Christmas season. I had bought a coupon from a another group buying site, Groupon(www.beeconomic.com.ph). I paid P250 for a P500 food voucher valid on any food and drinks at Vienna Kaffeehaus - minimum of 4 persons/voucher. I went at their The Gallery branch in Mabolo with my younger sister P and Mama. The place inside is small but more tables and chairs outside for those who like to dine-in `al fresco`, good for smoking diners. We then settled in inside with a small table good for 4 and redeemed my voucher. They were very strict with their voucher redemptions. 4 persons = 4 plated meals and since were only 3, we needed to add an additional meal so that the bill would show up 4 meals - pretty strict huh? Okay, so we then ordered 4 plated meals namely, Chicken cordon bleu, steamed fish(forgot the exact name), Seafood pasta and a breakfast meal(with a choice of coffee or canned fruit juice) of strawberry crepe and 3 cans of softdrinks. Total bill was a little over P1000.
Most of the main dishes are priced at 200 and above so considering the price, it was of good value. Rice meals come with a regular cup of rice and a (very)few steamed vegetable sidings on the side. Presentation wise, it was simply a decent but not excellent food presentation or maybe I was just expecting too much from this restaurant. The food tasted good, not great neither superb. The huge serving of chicken cordon bleu is packed with ham, chicken meat and cheese and it isn't too salty fo our palates. This dish inspired Mama to create her own version of it at home - and were all happy foodies. The steamed fish was garlic-ky and has just the right amount of flavor and texture(but I don't recommend you to order this dish, pretty plain ordinary). The seafood pasta was the best among those we've ordered. With the good amount of serving -which can be shared by two- and generous amount of mixed seafoods, creamy white sauce served with garlic bread, this one's a must-try. As for the crepe, nothing special. Just a simple crepe topped/smothered with strawberry jam.
Our overall experience in Vienna Kaffeehaus was good but this isn't something worth going back. There are some restos that are just worth a single try, and this is one of those. Sorry to say this, but I am not a fan.
