Hukad/Golden Cowrie is a popular Cebu-based restaurant that has garnered a large number of followings since it started in 1982. Based on my personal observation, they have grown to become what they are now today because of their unlimited rice offering which most Cebuano rice-eaters, like ME, get attracted to. Not only because of their "unli-rice" but also because of their affordable food offerings(food ranging from as low as P50 to as high as P300-400) and likewise the menu itself which consists of our favorite Filipino/Cebuano viands. This is probably the reason why my BFF who just arrived from the US chose this resto for our small friendly reunion.
We met up during dinner time at the Hukad/Golden Cowrie branch in Ayala Center Cebu. When we arrived, all tables were full so we ended up in the waitlist. After almost an hour of waiting we were finally seated and handed down the menu. I just noticed that waiters/servers were very busy that we could hardly call one of them to take our orders. This is understandable due to the fully-packed restaurant that night, so I guess service was okay.
I wouldn't go deeper on the items we ordered as there were a lot, hahaha. All I can say is that every single dish was worth it. They were consistent with the food they serve like my all-time favorite Bicol express, tuna fingers and the baked scallops. So I guess, consistency of the taste is also the reason why people flock here.

Hukad is ideal for groups like family, barkada(friends), relatives, office gatherings coz serving size is usually good for share. It is always nice to atleast once in a while dine in a restaurant that offers my favorite staple food at home served/or being served via modern Filipino dining.
Thank you BFF C. for the pasalubongs ;) |
Oh by the way, my friend says they don't accept reservations so if you have plans in dining here better come early.
