"Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into the desired shape. It is usually filled with a sweet center such as anko or red bean paste." This sweet dessert has recently became a new trend in the Philippine market. As an avid food-blog reader, I've read numerous blogs that mentioned about ice cream-filled, mochi. So as soon as I've learned that mochi is now available in Cebu, I readily made a research unto where to buy these mochi.
Mochiko is located in Ayala Center Cebu near Sun Cellular Shop outlet. This is where I've got my first taste of the "talked about" mochi ice cream. I bought one(I think it costs P65-80/pc) black sesame mochi. About an inch and a half in size, this yummy confection is a melt-in-your-mouth delight. Sticky, tikoy-like outer layer and ice cream-filled black sesame is a combination worth craving for. The sweetness is just enough leaving your palates in an awe with the crunchiness of the black sesame seeds that added delight to your soft mochi.
Although the first-time experience of tasting this wonderful dessert is worthwhile, I would have had a hard time buying this again as I find it a bit expensive. With this kind of price tag, I'd choose Gelatissimo over this. Though good, its still not worth every penny from a lower class individual's point of view.
