Our second day in Hongkong did not start well. As usual BF woke up late and we ended up arriving at the Ferry Terminal past 10am. Thus got into an 11:30am ferry as this was the cheapest we could get at 151HKD. We got into a petty fight as I blamed him for our very late departure.

immigration counters in Macau |
From the hostel(Yiu Fai Guesthouse), we walked our way to the ferry terminal. It was a very tiresome, "amazing-race" like walk. The directions were a bit tricky as road signs were not pointing correctly, hehehe. We got confused as we thought the terminal was similar to that of Cebu wherein you can almost see the seaview and boats. Contrary to our expectations, the terminal is located inside a building, how cool is that? It looks like a small airport(just my opinion).
hotels and buildings |
Because Macau is like another country, you need to go through immigration and have your passports marked for exiting Hongkong and entering Macau or vice versa. After an hour of sea journey we finally arrived in Macau. We headed directly to our first destination, the Wynn Hotel, Grand Lisboa and Ruins of St. Paul. There are many free hotel shuttle buses in the Macau terminal simply choose what hotel you'd want to explore.
our lunch |
Upon arriving at the first hotel, Wynn Hotel, we were already very hungry by then. It was already almost 2pm and we still haven't eaten our lunch. We took some photo-ops at Wynn Hotel's facade and searched rightaway for a place to eat afterwards. Our ultimate goal was to look for a "carenderia-style", affordable, "lutong-Macau" specialties. After a very long, exhausting search we finally found what we were looking for - a small "carenderia" in Macau. The utmost hindrance we encountered here was the language barrier. Most residents were not well versed in English so we had a difficult time communicating with them for our orders. Instead of acting or writing down what our orders were, we decided to point it out to what other customers ordered and have the same order as theirs(sooo copycat). We had a pork viand(humba-like), soup with liver(I think) and a cup of rice each. It was a decent meal, paying off 160HKD for 4pax.
"lutong Macau" |
Having a full tummy kept us alive so were headed to where we left off, then continued our DIY Macau tour. We searched for the Senado Square wherein we got lost and found the right track and proceeded to the Ruins of St. Paul. Going to the Ruins is where you'd encounter a lively Market of streetfoods, cookies and ham-like snacks. This is where the famous "free-taste" is located. We tried almost all of the offered "free-taste" knick-knacks and all were good so I decided to buy a box of cookies to bring to Cebu as pasalubong.
Ruins of St. Paul |
The Ruins of St. Paul is a sacred place. As a devoted Roman Catholic, I deemed this a holy place. The front facade was the only clear visible remains of this holy church. Relics, remains and ruins of the old church were preserved as well. This is a sacred place situated in a good location in Macau. Hence, became the highlight of our Macau tour.
Before heading home, we decided to take a glimpse of The Grand Lisboa(indeed it was grand) and took a few shots inside. Then went back to Wynn Hotel to ride the shuttle bus going to the terminal. I do have regrets for not visiting The Venetian Hotel, City of Dreams and more of the hotels in Macau. I wanted to go there but due to time constraints we were not able to do so. Well, atleast I have something to go back to in Macau someday.
**Ferry cost was at 150-200HKD/way
