The famous Bonchon Chicken has now opened its doors to the Cebuano crowd. This restaurant had been popular for its Korean-style chicken which has been fried twice or the "double-frying technique", which results in the skin being crunchier and less greasy. So for its grand opening last Oct. 1, 2012, BFF and I joined the bandwagon of dining at this infamous resto. We went there during dinner time and a queue of customers lining up greeted us upon entering. The line was slightly similar to that of Krispy Kreme, 7/11 and other popular shops that recently launched their first branch in Cebu.
Prior to this, I already have an idea as to what this resto is offering and what some of the menus were. Upon checking the actual menu, my guess was right. Their meals are quite expensive than that of Chicken Charlie. Sorry if I'd compare these two restos, they both boast the "double-frying technique" and both had "soy garlic" and "hot sauce" flavors for their chicken. Combo/ricebox meals comes with a choice of iced tea/soda(pepsi products) starts at P145.

I ordered chops ricebox meal while BFF had beef bulgogi rice both at P145 and we ordered blueberry torte koyo(korean yogurt) P75. I was told by the cashier that waiting time is around 25mins, too long huh? After the (long) wait, our orders arrived. Sadly, I was not impressed with the chicken chops that I had and so as BFF. The outer breading is kinda too thick and oily although it was flavorful, while the actual chicken itself tastes bland. If you eat the chicken meat only without the breading, it doesn't taste good. I was expecting this to be more delicious than that of my favorite Chicken Charlie - it didn't even come close. As for BFF's beef bulgogi, the beef has just the right amount of sweetness. The dish itself tastes ok, nothing exceptional. I was also slighty disappointed about the small serving of rice because I'm a certified rice-eater. But that's ok it is not the rice that counts and if you buy it separately it would only cost you P15 so it's not that expensive.

The highlight of the meal was our koyo(korean yogurt) desert. The blueberry torte yogurt is sooo delicious, not too sweet. It also has a lot of blueberry toppings with an adequate amount of layered crushed grahams, so yummy. The yogurt itself doesn't taste like soft-served ice creams. I felt it was of good quality yogurt. Just the right amount of sweetness and sourness, this is the kind of yogurt I've been longing for. For just P75 you got this koyo that tastes like my favorite White Hat yogurt but at a lower price. I'd definitely be buying this again.
Will I go back to Bonchon Chicken? Maybe. And next time I'll try the chicken wings and drumstick. They probably taste better than the chops. And I'll surely get the yogurt again.
